Agate mortars & pestles
Agate is essentially an amorphous form of silica. Due to it's inherent physical characterics it is very hard - 6.5 on the Moh's scale. Agate mortars are primarily used for applications demanding contamination-free results. Even in this area, cheap products have found their way onto the market. In general these are of poor quality stone, badly polished and with an inferior finish.
By contrast, our ISO-certified manufacturer uses only top-quality semi-precious stones which are then correctly polished for the best possible finish. Potential deviations from the sizes published here (tolerances) are due to the characteristics of the individual stone and are not cause for complaint. Specifically, these are:
OD at top lip: ± 3mm
ID at top lip: ± 3mm
Total height: ± 5mm
Depth: ± 2mm
Volume: ± 5%
