Osram HBO / HXP lamps

The discharge arc in Osram HBO lamps burns under high pressure in an atomosphere of mercury. Some of their important characteristics are the high beam intensity, the high radiancy in the UV and visibile wavelength ranges, the multiple-line spectrum and their usability with either AC or DC.

HBO lamps are available from 50 W to 16 kW, whereby those rated at 350 W or more are primarily used in the manufacture of electronic chips for microlithography. The lower wattage lamps are predominantly used in scientific and technical applications such as:

• fluorescence microscopy, fluuorescence endoscopy, UV curing and optical waveguide applications.

Because of their high luminance, UV radiation and internal pressure in both the hot and cold state, HBO lamps may only be operated in enclosed lamp casings specially constructed for the purpose. Mercury is released if the lamp breaks. Special safety precautions must be taken. Please refer to the leaflet included with each lamp or the operating instructions.
